lesson 2

Hello, everyone!
I've read your blogs and added them all to the list on the class blog. That makes sense - at least for me - to make our work more organised and coordinated. Unfortunately, not everyone made task 3 from the last lesson - you had to comment on your classmates news, so please, do that in the nearest future.
Today we'll explore a very interesting and useful website - bbc learning english. It is a great resourse to imrove your language skills and enlarge your vocabulary.

First, just go ahead for 5 minutes, explore the site by clicking the link above. Afterwards, we'll have a feedback discussion: what can you do on this site? what do you find most interesting and useful?

Now, you'll explore the site in more details. As you can see, it includes many rubrics. We'll work in groups - now we'll decide who's in which group - and each group will have a special task about researching this site. You will post the results of your research on your blog? and don't forger to mention which group you are in!

Task 1

Go to words in the news and find the story called
Group 1. Eating 64-year-old food
Group 2. Why zebras have stripes
Group 3. Popcorn older than cinema!
Use the vocabulary comments and publish on your blog a literary translation of this story. You can use online dictionaries, but no mashine translation!

Task 2

Go to the English we speak and click on
Group 1. Cheesy
Group 2. Mind-boggling
Group 3. Savvy
Listen and/or read the issue and then on your blog make up a short situation which demonstrates the idiomatic use of this word

Task 3

Go to News English Extra and find a story called
Group 1. Information Society
Group 2. Money laundering
Group 3. Biodiversity

On your blog, publish a short news story on the topic and don't forget to use the word of your group!

Task 4 - All groups!

Go to Keep you English up to Date! and find Series 4. Read about new words which have appeared in English quite recently. Then, do a quizz based on this series (at the botton of the introduction page). How many points did you get right?

Homework
I hope you enjoyed your journey through BBC Learning English website. You can subscribe to it and use it regularly. At home I would ask you do the following:
1. On your blog, publish 50 -words-long feedback on today's lesson.
2. You have 2 options: either go to Words in the News and find another story to translate (and publish on your blog, of course) or go to News English Extra and make up another news story and publish it as well

This seems to be all for today. See you next Monday!
