Hello everyone,
today you are working alone, as I'm away at a state exam again. Hope you'll find your way through the tasks OK)))

  • find a site with some information about the author and post it as a link to your glog

  • find a blurb (a short appealing statement about a book which is aimed at convinsing people to buy it, usually found at the back cover of the book) to the book you've chosen and post it as a link to your glog

  • write a short description of the main character

Lesson 8
Hi everyone
today we'll do some fairly interesting (ihope so) things again.

Task 1 -Here is the News!
First of all I'd like you to watch some news. It's a special CNN news program for students. After you watch the news issue I'd like you to answer some questions on your blog. You can use the transcript of the newsreel it you didn't get something by ear

Task 2 - Memory tricks
in the newsreel you've just seen a story about how one can remember things. There's another brilliant tool that can help you remember things - it's a mindmap. A mindmap is a tool that organises topical vocabulary into groups. You can have a look at one here
Now, you'll go and register at Mindomo site which helps you to create mindmaps. Your task is to create a mindmap for the newsreel you've just seen. it will look like this. Make it as detailed as possible. Add pictures, weblinks, comments - use as many tools as you can.

Homework
Complete your mindmap (make it as detailed as you can)

Lesson 6

Hello everyone,

We are going on with our amazing journey through ICT tools.
So, today we'll do an online crossword puzzle and afterwards a short cartoon.

Task 1

Go to this crossword maker site and make a crossword puzzle from the words you've learned in this course so far. They can be words from BBC Learning English site, from Healthy Lifestyle webquest or from Dorian Gray reading (or a combination of all the three, which will make the crossword more challenging)

After you've finished with the puzzle, save it and attach the link to your blog. Go to each other's crossword puzzles and try to solve them!

Task 2

Go to this cartoon maker site and have fun creating a cartoon dialogue devoted to one of the following topics:
1. Two friends are discussing the Dorian Gray story they've just read/watched. Exchange opinions about whether you liked\ disliked the story, agree\disagree with the message, sympathize with\are disgusted by the main hero
2. Two friends are discuiing the aspects of healthy lifestyle (exercising, healthy meals...) One is asking for advice, the other is advising
3. A topic of your choice, incorporating words from bbclearningenglish site

Embed a link to your cartoon into your blog

Catch up!

Not all of you (actually, only a couple of people) have done a 100 word piclits caption to the previous lesson. Please, do!
Here is the link to my register. HAve a look at what else you have to do

Homework

Create either another crossword or another cartoon

Lesson 5

Hello everyone,
today you will be working alone as I'm away at an examination. Hope you won't miss me much)))
I've looked at your blogs again and noticed not all of you were busy keeping up with the pace of the course(though many of you do!) -which is quite sad... Remember, you'll be tested on the basis of the sum of your activities!
As you are probably doing the topic "Hobbies" at your speech practice class, I've decided we can have a go with that as well. To be more precise, we'll deal with reading. I hope you like reading, don't you?
Today, you'll read extracts from a famous book The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. This is a mysterious psychological (and pretty phylosophical) story which has been filmed many times. You may like to see a trailer of one of its screen versions (the latest one as far as I know)

So, today you'll read some extracts from the story, do some vocabulary tasks ( using quizlet, which you seemed to like) and write a mini-composition with piclits (which some of you seemed to enjoy)

Task 1

Read the abridged version of the story consulting vocabulary notes (at the bottom of each page) Also, complete the vocabulary task which follows (publish answers on your blog). Hope you manage with the text which follows - enlarge the scale for your convenience and turn pages using arrows

Task 2

Go to Quizlet (see previous lesson for a link) and create a set of 10 vocabulary cards. Use the vocabulary from bottom-page notes (see task 1) and from the vocabulary task which follows the text. There are 27 words all in all, so you have a choice! Visit each other's sets and play with them. Attach a link to your set of cards to your blog.

Task 3 (Homework)

Create a Piclits with an answer to the question (in no more than 100 words):
To what extend do you think our appearance reflects the life that we have led?
Attach your Piclits (or a link to it) to your blog.

Go to previous post first!

Sorry, I couldn't print anything under quizlet sample below. So, had to make this new post.
PicLit from PicLits.com
Above, there is an application of another tool for imaginative and creative people who I'm sure all of you are. If you go to piclits.com, you can choose a picture up to your taste and write a composition using either drag-and-drop or freestyle regime. I would like you to experiment with both and attach links to them into your blog
Lesson 4
Hello everyone!
I'm glad we are progressing. However, not all of you are doing their homework - that's a bit annoying... Is it too difficult? Still, I'd like to say thank you to the most active participants - Daria, Natalia, Marina, Maria Golovanova and Katya Vasilyeva. Well done, girls!

Anyway, everyone will probably have sometime at the end of this class to catch up.

Today , I'd like us to practice more online tools for learning english today. One of them is Quizlet - a tool which helps you create individual sets of vocabulary cards. You can play with a small one I've created - "Translator's false friends". Have a go with study, games and test mode
Afterwards, go to quizlet.com and create a set of vocabulary cards for the words you found while reading resources for the webquest last time. Insert your cards set into your blog, then, go and practice with other peoples' cards.
